WordPress Multilingual Plugin Prices: What Will Your Site Cost?

Two multilingual plugin feature lists weighed on a scale

Several popular WordPress multilingual plugins start at €99 per year for a paid license. Free options also exist, while hosted translation services can start at €15 per month or a configurable $12 per month.

Your actual budget depends on the languages you want, the amount of content to translate, and the features your website needs. A small business website adding French has different requirements from a WooCommerce store translating hundreds of products into three languages.

This guide compares WPML, TranslatePress, Polylang, Weglot, GTranslate and MultilingualPress, including automatic translation, renewal costs and practical website budgets.

Prices checked on 6 October 2026. This guide is published by LingoWP, a WordPress translation plugin. The comparison uses competitors’ official pricing and documentation; it does not claim to be an independent product test. Prices retain their original currencies, and checkout taxes may affect the final amount.

WordPress multilingual plugin prices at a glance

Plugin Paid starting price What to check before buying
WPML €39/year The €99 CMS plan includes AI translation, Elementor and WooCommerce support.
TranslatePress €99/year Personal includes one site, SEO Pack and 50,000 AI words.
Polylang €99/year for Pro Free manual translation is available; DeepL usage and WooCommerce support are separate considerations.
Weglot €15/month or €150/year Starter covers 10,000 translated words and one target language.
GTranslate Custom from $12/month Confirm the configuration; URL translation requires a higher plan.
MultilingualPress €149/year, including VAT Starter covers two total languages within one WordPress multisite installation.

Polylang and Weglot list prices excluding VAT. MultilingualPress includes VAT in its displayed prices. Confirm tax treatment for your purchase rather than comparing every displayed amount as if it were a final invoice.

The starting price is useful for a first look. To choose a plan, check whether it covers your content, translation method and website features.

What are you paying for?

Multilingual products package their costs differently. Understanding the billing model makes the price comparison easier.

An annual plugin license

A license generally covers a period of updates and support, often with a website allowance. Some plans also include automatic translation words.

For example, an allowance for unlimited websites does not necessarily mean unlimited AI translation. You may manage ten client websites under one license while sharing a fixed translation allowance across them.

Automatic translation usage

Automatic translation can come through included words, additional word packs or a separate translation-provider account.

More languages generally mean more content to translate. If your website contains 10,000 source words, translating everything into three target languages creates roughly 30,000 words of translation work. The billable count can also include navigation, product attributes and search descriptions.

Vendors measure this differently. TranslatePress uses a character-based conversion for its AI word counter. WPML documents source-word usage for each target language. Compare your estimated usage against the product’s own meter.

An ongoing hosted service

With a hosted service, the subscription supports the translated website as well as the translation workspace.

Weglot’s word limit, for example, describes the amount of translated content in your account. It is not a new word pack that replenishes every month. A website can outgrow that limit as more content or languages are added.

These differences also affect what happens when you stop paying, which we cover below.

What each plugin’s price includes

WPML price: €39, €99 or €199 per year

WPML offers three annual plans:

  • Multilingual Blog: €39, for one production website and basic manual content translation.
  • Multilingual CMS: €99, for three production websites, with 22,500 included AI words.
  • Multilingual Agency: €199, for unlimited production websites, with 45,000 included AI words.

CMS and Agency include page-builder support, string translation, translation management and WooCommerce capabilities. For an Elementor website or an automatically translated store, CMS is the relevant starting point. See WPML’s plan comparison.

WPML is worth considering when you need a translation workflow covering website pages, interface text and store content. Its WooCommerce integration also covers areas such as product variations, checkout and customer emails. WooCommerce features

Beyond the included allowance, automatic translation costs depend on usage and the selected engine. WPML’s PTC pay-as-you-go pricing includes 500 free words monthly, followed by progressive volume tiers. You can also purchase prepaid words. Automatic translation pricing

TranslatePress pricing: €99, €199 or €349 per year

TranslatePress offers:

  • Personal: €99, one website and 50,000 AI words.
  • Business: €199, three websites and 200,000 AI words.
  • Developer: €349, unlimited websites and 500,000 AI words.

All paid plans include additional languages and SEO Pack. Business and Developer add features such as translator accounts, language-dependent navigation and separate domains for languages. The monthly figures displayed on the pricing page are equivalents of annual billing. See TranslatePress pricing.

Its visual editor lets you review and change translations while looking at the website. This can suit owners who want to see where a phrase appears before editing it.

Additional AI packs currently start at €24 for 100,000 words. The included allowance refreshes with renewal; unused included words carry over on renewal, and purchased words do not expire. An active license is required to use the AI words. AI allowance rules

The free edition supports the original language plus one target language and manual visual translation. It also lists a small 2,000-word AI allowance. Premium features expand language and SEO control. Free edition details

Polylang pricing: free manual translation, paid workflow and shop features

Free Polylang supports manual translation into multiple languages. It can be a reasonable option when you already have translations and are comfortable publishing and maintaining them yourself. Free plugin features

For one website, the paid options start at:

  • Polylang Pro: €99/year.
  • Polylang for WooCommerce: €99/year.
  • Business Pack: €139/year, combining Pro and the WooCommerce extension.

Prices exclude VAT. The current renewal offer is 50% of the applicable new-license price. Polylang pricing

The WooCommerce extension works with either free Polylang or Pro. A shop using a manual workflow therefore does not automatically need the Business Pack. WooCommerce requirements

Pro’s automatic translation connection uses your own DeepL API account, so provider charges sit outside the plugin license. Its documented automatic workflow handles individual content items and excludes Elementor and Divi content. Check that restriction if automatic translation of a page-builder website is your priority. Weglot pricing: choose capacity for content and languages

Weglot plan Monthly payment Annual payment Translated words Target languages
Free €0 €0 2,000 1
Starter €15 €150 10,000 1
Business €29 €290 50,000 3
Pro €79 €790 200,000 5
Advanced €299 €2,990 1,000,000 10

These prices exclude VAT. Higher-capacity plans are also available. See Weglot pricing.

Weglot combines automatic translation with a hosted management workspace. Its limits count translated content across your languages, including relevant metadata. Stored translations can continue counting until removed. How Weglot counts words

Also check feature requirements. Translated URL slugs start at Pro, while translation export requires Advanced or higher. Website-project allowances and monthly request limits are separate from language capacity. Plan features · Export requirements

GTranslate pricing: configurable subscriptions with feature upgrades

GTranslate’s paid monthly options are:

  • Custom: from $12, depending on configuration.
  • Startup: $25.
  • Business: $35, adding URL translation.
  • Enterprise: $50, adding language-specific domain hosting.

Paid plans include editing and search-engine indexing. The advertised annual discount gives two months free, making Business approximately $350 per year before applicable taxes. Confirm the configuration and checkout amount. GTranslate pricing

Paid plans advertise unlimited words and pageviews, subject to fair-use conditions. Very high traffic, storage or translation bursts can lead to limits or a dedicated-server requirement.

There is also a free version, but current terms prohibit its use for commercial or revenue-generating activity. A business website should budget for an applicable paid subscription. GTranslate terms

MultilingualPress pricing: language capacity within a multisite network

MultilingualPress lists these annual plans, including VAT:

  • Starter: €149, two total languages.
  • Professional: €499, six total languages.
  • Advanced: €899, twelve total languages.
  • Enterprise: €1,499, unlimited languages.

Each covers one WordPress installation, with one year of updates and support. MultilingualPress pricing

The product uses WordPress multisite, where you manage a site for each language. The language allowance includes the original language, so Starter fits a bilingual website. Separate client networks require separate licensing unless another arrangement is agreed. License rules

Automatic translation connects to your own provider account, with separate usage charges. Include the time needed to set up and maintain a multisite network when assessing its overall fit. Automatic translation documentation

What would your website cost?

The following examples show how requirements affect the budget. They are calculated illustrations rather than checkout quotes or translation-quality rankings. They exclude hosting, professional translation review and implementation work. Tax treatment differs, and each vendor’s actual word count may differ.

A business website adding one language

Suppose you want automatic translation of approximately 8,000 billable words into one target language. You have one website, and translating URL slugs is optional.

WPML CMS at €99/year and TranslatePress Personal at €99/year both have included allowances that can cover this example, subject to their respective counters.

Weglot Starter at €150/year fits if the total translated content stays below 10,000 words. If translated URL slugs are required, you need to consider Pro at €790/year instead.

For Polylang Pro, the budget starts at €99 plus DeepL usage, provided its automatic workflow supports your content. If you already have the translated text, free Polylang may meet a simpler manual requirement.

The question to answer first is whether you need automatic translation, a manual publishing workflow or a hosted service. That decision makes the prices more meaningful.

A WooCommerce store adding three languages

Now suppose your store has 50,000 relevant source words and needs three target languages. Assume roughly 150,000 billable translation units, an unused included allowance and translated URL slugs.

Option Illustrative first-year cost Assumption
WPML CMS About €314 €99 license plus €215 of additional PTC usage
TranslatePress Personal About €123 €99 license plus a €24 pack, if its meter counts 150,000 words
Polylang Business Pack €139 plus DeepL Provider usage charged separately; content must fit the workflow
Weglot Pro €790 Content fits the 200,000-word capacity
GTranslate Business About $350 Calculated annual discount; fair-use terms apply
MultilingualPress Professional €499 including VAT, plus provider Four total languages fit the six-language plan

The WPML estimate subtracts 22,500 included words, leaving 127,500 pay-as-you-go words. Under its current PTC tiers, processed in one billing month, that costs €215 excluding VAT. Different timing or prior usage changes the calculation. WPML usage rates

TranslatePress’s example uses its 50,000 included words plus a 100,000-word pack. Its meter converts characters into words, so validate the website’s actual count before treating €123 as your budget. TranslatePress word counting

Before choosing, also check checkout text, customer emails, product variations and any store extensions you use. A price that covers product descriptions may not cover every part of your customer experience.

An agency managing ten websites

Website allowances become more important when you manage clients:

License or service arrangement Annual cost What it covers
WPML Agency €199 Unlimited production websites; finite AI allowance
TranslatePress Developer €349 Unlimited websites; finite AI allowance
Polylang Pro, 25-site license €495 Ten websites fit; external AI usage is additional
Polylang Business Pack, 25-site license €649 Adds WooCommerce support
Weglot Advanced €2,990 Ten projects with shared word capacity

These figures compare website capacity, not a complete translation budget. Polylang multi-site licenses · Business Pack licenses · Weglot project limits

A different arrangement can be cheaper: ten separately managed Weglot Starter subscriptions total €1,500 annually if every client fits the smaller plan. Compare both client requirements and how you want to manage their accounts.

Renewal costs and what happens when payment stops

Renewal affects more than updates. Establish what remains available before committing to a product.

Product What to consider at renewal or cancellation
WPML Existing translations continue showing without renewal; updates and support require an active account.
TranslatePress Translations remain stored locally, but AI access and certain premium functions require an active license.
Polylang The plugin continues functioning after license expiry; updates and support stop.
Weglot When the paid service ends, paid-plan translations are no longer active on the website.

Sources: WPML renewal FAQ · TranslatePress terms · Polylang renewal FAQ · Weglot cancellation guide.

Polylang’s current 50% renewal discount would make a €99 license’s renewal €49.50 if the applicable price remains unchanged. Confirm your renewal offer in your account; older licenses and future price changes can affect the amount.

Also distinguish owning your translated text, being able to export it, and keeping translated pages live. Those are separate benefits. If moving to another solution matters to you, check the export requirements before purchasing.

When is a free WordPress translation plugin enough?

A free plugin can be enough when you have a small website, already have translated text, and can review and maintain each language yourself.

Free Polylang supports multiple languages for manual publishing. Free TranslatePress supports one additional language with visual editing. Weglot’s free plan can accommodate a very small translated website within its 2,000-word limit.

Free does not automatically mean translated pages cannot appear in search results. Check the specific product’s URL, metadata and sitemap features. Paid plans often add richer controls rather than being a universal requirement for multilingual SEO.

Your time still belongs in the budget. Each new language needs wording review, navigation checks and attention when the original content changes. Automatic translation can provide a starting point, but someone should still check product information, calls to action and customer-facing messages.

Choose a plan around the work you need to do

Start with five facts about your website: its content size, target languages, number of sites, store requirements and preferred translation workflow.

Then narrow the options:

  • You already have translations and want manual control: investigate free Polylang or free TranslatePress, checking their language and feature limits.
  • You want automatic translation within an annual plugin budget: compare WPML CMS and TranslatePress’s paid plans, including additional usage.
  • You prefer a hosted translation service: compare Weglot’s capacity limits with GTranslate’s configurations and service conditions.
  • Your website already uses multisite: assess MultilingualPress’s language allowances and provider costs.
  • You manage client websites: compare site licenses, pooled translation allowances and the time needed to review changes across clients.

A useful trial task is to translate one representative page, correct a sentence, change the original text and see how you find the translation that needs attention. For a store, repeat the process with a product and its customer-facing messages. This gives you a clearer sense of daily work than a feature count alone.

Common pricing questions

Is automatic translation included in the plugin price?

Sometimes. WPML CMS and Agency and paid TranslatePress plans include allowances. Polylang Pro and MultilingualPress connect to separately billed provider accounts. Hosted services include automatic translation within their plan rules.

Does adding more languages increase the cost?

It can. More target languages increase translation work, and some products limit how many languages a plan supports. Estimate the content across all target languages, then check both usage and language capacity.

Do I need a paid plugin for WooCommerce?

It depends on the solution and the parts of the store you need translated. Some free tools can translate visible store content, while other products require a WooCommerce extension or a paid tier. Check products, variations, checkout and emails individually.

Is the cheapest license the cheapest overall option?

Only if it meets your requirements and stays within your expected usage. Add required features, automatic translation, renewal and review time before deciding. Keep license-only prices separate from complete website budgets.

How should I estimate my own budget?

Use this calculation: plan price + additional translation usage + required extensions + review and maintenance time. For a hosted service, also budget for the plan needed to keep your translated content online as the website grows.
